Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has terminated the basic party membership of 22 members from South Punjab, including former Chief Minister of Punjab, Usman Buzdar, and ex-Federal Minister Makhdoom Khusro Bakhtiar.
PTI Secretary General, Omar Ayub Khan, issued the termination notice, which took effect immediately. This action comes as a response to the members’ defection from the party and deviation from its policies, following the May 09 incident when the whole country was in grip of violent protests after arrest of Imran Khan in graft case.
Among those expelled from PTI are prominent figures such as Sardar Muhammad Khan Leghari, Syed Nadeem Zaman Shah, Ehtisham ul Haq Laleka, Prince Bahawal Khan Abbasi, Sabeen Gul, Mian Shafi Muhammad, Syed Muhammad Asghar Shah, Mian Tariq Abdullah, Muhammad Akhtar Malik, and Muhammad Afzal.
The party also expelled Ehsan ul Haq, Javed Akhtar Ansari, Saleem Akhtar Labar, Muhammad Zaheer ud Din Khan Alizai, Farooq Azam Malik, Salman Khan Gadoka, Akram Kanu, Mohiyuddin Solangi, Makhdoom Afqar ul Hassan, and Raja Muhammad Saleem.
The termination notice directs the members to refrain from using the party’s name, designation, and/or membership in any manner. Failure to comply may result in further action by the party, including legal measures.
Meanwhile, PTI has strongly rejected the recent escalation in petrol, diesel, and LPG prices, expressing concerns that it would exacerbate the hardships faced by the poverty-stricken and inflation-ridden masses. The party blames the current government for opening the floodgates of inflation, leading to increased poverty and hunger among the population.
According to the PTI spokesman, the recent increase in fuel prices will trigger a tsunami of inflation in the country, as it adds to the already unbearable costs of living. The party claims that the cost of production will skyrocket due to the substantial increase in fuel prices, further crippling the nation’s economy, which is already facing significant challenges.
The PTI spokesperson highlighted the drastic increases in prices of essential commodities during the current government’s tenure. For instance, petrol has seen an over 80% price hike, while the cost of flour, sugar, ghee, and electricity has also surged considerably.
Furthermore, the depreciation of the Pakistani rupee against the US dollar has led to a significant drop in its value, further exacerbating economic woes for the citizens.
PTI has expressed deep concern over the worsening economic situation in the country and has vowed to take measures to address the issues faced by the public.
