Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has urged to take various measures, encompassing legal, constitutional, and administrative actions, to prevent a recurrence of the events that took place on May 9.
Addressing a meeting of the National Security Committee, the Prime Minister emphasized that the violent protests on May 9 had inflicted severe damage upon Pakistan, causing anger and frustration among the people, even in the present day.
Chief of Army Staff Gen Asim Munir, Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee Chairman Gen Sahir Shamshad Mirza are also present at the meeting.
“I believe that the NSC meeting today expresses solidarity with the Pakistan Army, condemns these incidents and law will take its course … no one will be given undue punishment but those who are guilty won’t be spared.”
“All of us are compelled to think that what was the ideology, group or person behind setting on fire the love of Pakistan.
During his address, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed grave concern regarding the destruction of Jinnah House, emphasizing its symbolic importance as a place that once provided refuge to the defenders of Pakistan.
He deeply lamented the fact that the planners and leaders of the May 9 events, who not only attacked military installations but also demonstrated disrespect towards the martyrs, were responsible for reducing this historic building to ashes.
The Prime Minister made a resolute commitment to taking decisive measures to ensure that those accountable for these events are punished and face legal consequences.
He highlighted the strong and unanimous demand from Pakistan’s population of 220 million, urging for utmost accountability to prevent any future recurrence of such incidents.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif further acknowledged that since May 9, Pakistan has witnessed disturbing events that have brought shame and infamy to the country.
“Jinnah House is not just a building … it housed the sons that protected Pakistan. They destroyed it — in fact, reduced it to ashes.”
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in an address to the National Security Meeting, vowed that the planners and leaders of the May 9 events, who attacked military installations and “disrespected our martyrs”, will be punished and brought to justice.
“Our nation of 22 billion has demanded that those who are sinful, in any regard, should be punished so that such an incident does not take place ever again,” he said.
“From May 9 onwards, some gruesome events have taken place, which have shamed Pakistan and which have brought a lot of disgrace and infamy.
“Whatever happened on May 9 in this country, it will be remembered as the darkest chapter in this country’s history.”
