T20 World Cup: Kapil Dev Says Pakistan Can Beat India

Former Indian captain Kapil Dev said that Pakistan is a dangerous side that can beat any team in the world on any given day, as millions across the world await the high-octane India-Pakistan clash today.

India’s 1983 World Cup-winning captain, according to ABP News, said he didn’t know much about team Pakistan but knew enough to state that “such things” (one side’s supremacy over the other) did not matter. Furthermore, he said that in the match of India-Pakistan, it is all about handling the pressure.

Kapil told ABP News that “On the field, such things [which team will dominate] don’t matter. Both teams will be under pressure, thus it will be interesting to see who will handle the pressure well.” In addition, he said, “Although I don’t know much about them, still I would say that Pakistan is a dangerous team in T20, they can defeat anyone on a given day.”

On paper, India appears to be a formidable opponent, according to Dev. However, he went on to say that it all rests on Kohli’s team’s ability to match the rhythm on the field.

India and Pakistan haven’t played each other in over 2 years. The two South Asian heavyweights last met in the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup, with India triumphing.

When the two sides meet today, Kapil Dev believes there will be an element of “uncertainty” between them.

He said, “Both teams have not played against each other, so surely the uncertainty would be there. The Indian team looks stronger, but Pakistan has a lot of unexpected players. Although I feel India should not be worried about it.” In addition, he said “The only thing is to perform well under pressure. Pakistan can win this match also if the Indian team is unable to handle the pressure.”

T20 World Cup

Virat Kohli, the captain of India, and Babar Azam, the captain of Pakistan, will face off in a World Cup match in Dubai today.

The match will start at 7:00 pm (PST).

India and Pakistan

Since obtaining independence from British colonial authority in the mid-20th century, the nuclear-armed neighbors have gone to war three times and are still at odds over Kashmir.

The last bilateral series between India and Pakistan was in 2013, and the teams now only encounter in global tournaments, the most recent of which being the 2019 ODI World Cup in England.

former India player Suresh Raina, while writing for the International Cricket Council (ICC) website on Saturday, said that “I was involved in the games in 2014 and 2016. If you ask me, as a player, it was always a high-pressure game.”
