In the first interaction of the Taliban’s spokesperson with Chinese media after the Taliban took over, Suhail Shaheen commended the constructive role of the Chinese government in establishing regional peace and security.
He acknowledged that China is an emerging economic superpower that can play a positive role in rebuilding, rehabilitation, and reconstruction of Afghanistan. During a meeting of the Chinese foreign ministry with the Taliban last month, the Chinese representative expressed hope for the Taliban to adopt a moderate policy in Afghanistan.
China plans on maintaining good relations with the Taliban
The Chinese government has released the official statement that Beijing plans on maintaining communication with the Taliban on the condition of mutual respect and protection of sovereignty.
Hua Chunying, the spokesperson of the Chinese Foreign Ministry stated that they encourage the Taliban to maintain regional peace, adopt moderate and sagacious policies and introduce the concept of inclusivity in their system of governance. Miss Hua also said that the Taliban have a clearer vision this time which has motivated them to negotiate and carry out a dialogue with them.
Meanwhile, Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi have focused on creating a strong coalition and communication between China and Pakistan over the Afghan issue in order to ensure a peaceful transition of power. He also emphasized the need of creating diplomatic ties with the Taliban government which can guarantee the smooth functioning of Pakistani and Chinese embassies in Kabul.
Pakistan and Taliban
On the other hand, Mansoor Ahmed Khan, Pakistan’s ambassador to Afghanistan also released a statement on Thursday where he announced that Pakistan is in contact with the Taliban and constantly striving to help the international community after the Taliban takeover.
In an interview with a local news channel, Khan said that they were constantly in contact with Mullah Baradar representing the Taliban and Abdullah Abdullah representing the Afghan delegation in the Qatar dialogue. He further mentioned that the Government of Pakistan does support the idea of an inclusive Afghan government followed by regional peace and security but will not allow the militant groups of Tehreeke Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Daesh, and Al Qaeda to carry out their activities on its soil.
